ITINERARY
Hanoi - Mai Chau - Pu Luong Nature Reserve

07:30 Meet your guide at your hotel in Hanoi and depart for Pu Luong Nature Reserve. The journey takes you through the scenic countryside of Hoa Binh Province, with a short refreshment stop along the way.

11:30 Arrive in Mai Chau Valley and enjoy lunch in Pom Coong Village at a traditional Thai stilt house. This is a great opportunity to experience local hospitality and sample authentic regional cuisine before beginning your trek.

13:30 Start trekking into the heart of Pu Luong Nature Reserve. Follow quiet trails through terraced rice fields, limestone valleys, and remote ethnic minority villages. Along the way, you will encounter local farmers working in the fields and gain insight into the daily life of the Thai and Muong communities who have called these mountains home for generations.

The route offers spectacular views of rice terraces, forested hills, and the dramatic limestone landscapes that make Pu Luong one of Northern Vietnam’s most beautiful trekking destinations.

18:00 Arrive at a traditional Thai village and settle into your homestay. Enjoy a home-cooked dinner prepared by your hosts and spend the evening experiencing the warm hospitality and unique culture of the local community.

Day 2: Full day trekking in Pu Luong Nature Reserve

07:00 Wake up to the peaceful sounds of village life and enjoy a traditional breakfast prepared by your hosts. Early risers may take a short walk around the village to witness the daily activities of local farmers as the valley comes to life.

08:00 Begin a full day of trekking through some of the most spectacular landscapes in Pu Luong Nature Reserve.

The morning section is the most challenging part of the day, featuring several steep climbs, narrow mountain trails, and river crossings. The effort is well rewarded with breathtaking views over terraced rice fields, limestone mountains, tropical forests, and hidden valleys. This is one of the most scenic off-the-beaten-path trekking routes in Northern Vietnam.

As you gain elevation, enjoy panoramic views across the reserve before descending through remote villages and lush forest landscapes.

12:30 Arrive at Hin Village and enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by the beautiful scenery of Pu Luong.

13:30 Continue trekking toward Hieu Village, widely regarded as one of the most picturesque villages in the region. Surrounded by rice terraces and mountain streams, the village offers a wonderful glimpse into traditional rural life.

From Hieu Village, continue along scenic trails to Kho Muong Village, a remote settlement nestled in a dramatic limestone valley at the heart of the nature reserve.

17:00 Arrive at Kho Muong Village. Check in to your traditional homestay and enjoy some free time to explore the village, interact with local residents, or simply relax and take in the peaceful surroundings.

Today's trekking distance is approximately 12–15 km, depending on trail conditions and route variations.

19:00 Enjoy a traditional dinner with your hosts. Spend the evening sharing stories, sampling local rice wine, and experiencing the warm hospitality of the Thai community before settling in for the night.

07:00 Enjoy breakfast at the homestay and take in the peaceful atmosphere of Kho Muong before setting off on the final day of your adventure.

08:00 Begin trekking through the beautiful landscapes of Pu Luong Nature Reserve. Today's route covers approximately 5–7 km and takes around 3 hours to complete.

The first section follows gentle trails through rice terraces and valleys, offering a relaxed start to the day and plenty of opportunities to appreciate the natural beauty of the reserve.

After passing through Ban Hieu Village, the trail becomes more challenging with several steep climbs and river crossings. Your efforts are rewarded with spectacular panoramic views over the surrounding valleys, limestone mountains, and terraced fields.

As the route descends, continue trekking toward Pho Doan Village, a traditional market town located at the edge of the nature reserve.

11:30 Arrive in Pho Doan Village and enjoy some time to rest before meeting your driver.

12:00 Transfer by vehicle and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant along the way.

13:30 Depart for Hanoi.

17:00 Arrive back in Hanoi and transfer to your hotel. End of the tour.

  • Terrain: The trek takes you through the diverse and spectacular landscapes of Pu Luong Nature Reserve, combining terraced rice fields, remote ethnic minority villages, tropical forests, limestone valleys, and mountain streams. Trails vary from easy village paths and scenic valley walks to narrow mountain tracks with steep ascents and descents. Some sections can be physically demanding, particularly during longer climbs and after rainfall when trails may become muddy and slippery. However, the route follows established trekking paths and does not require any technical climbing skills or specialized equipment.
  • Suitability: This trek is ideal for active travelers seeking an authentic off-the-beaten-path experience in Northern Vietnam. While no previous trekking experience is required, participants should be in good physical condition and comfortable hiking for several hours each day over varied terrain. Children aged 12–15 are welcome when accompanied by a parent or guardian and have a reasonable level of fitness.

2. Homestay

  • Overnight Stays: Accommodation is provided in traditional Thai stilt houses, offering an authentic and immersive experience in the heart of Pu Luong Nature Reserve. Built from wood and elevated above the ground, these iconic houses are a defining feature of the local Thai ethnic minority culture and have been home to generations of families in the region. Guests will stay in a spacious communal sleeping area or simple private rooms within the stilt house, depending on group size and availability. Sleeping arrangements are comfortable and include clean mattresses, fresh linens, blankets, pillows, and mosquito nets to ensure a restful night's sleep after a day on the trails.
  • Facilities: While the homestay embraces a simple and rustic lifestyle, it is equipped with clean, modern, and fully functional shared bathrooms and western-style toilets. Hot water is available, allowing you to enjoy a refreshing shower and unwind comfortably after your ride.

3. Food & Water

  • Meals: All meals showcase authentic, hearty local cuisine designed to replenish your energy after active outdoor sessions. Breakfasts are served hot at the homestay accompanied by tea or coffee. Depending on the day's itinerary, lunches are either enjoyed fresh at the homestay or packed as a scenic picnic lunch along the trekking route. Dinners feature a diverse spread of regional dishes prepared by our local hosts.
  • Water & Energy: Clean, safe drinking water and energy-boosting snacks (such as fresh fruits or local treats) are supplied daily during the tour. 
  • Hot Beverages: Complimentary hot tea or coffee is generally available during breakfasts at the homestay.
