ITINERARY
Day 1: Sapa – Tam Duong – Ho Thau – Mountain Hut No1 (2500m)

07:00 Meet your guide at your hotel in Sapa. After a short briefing and final equipment check, depart by vehicle for Ho Thau Village in Tam Duong District, Lai Chau Province, the gateway to Pu Ta Leng Mountain.

08:30 Arrive in Ho Thau and meet the local Dao porter team who will accompany the trek. After preparing your gear and supplies, begin the ascent into the forests of Pu Ta Leng. The trail quickly enters dense primeval forest, where giant trees, moss-covered trunks, and mountain streams create one of the most beautiful trekking environments in Northern Vietnam.

11:30 Stop for a picnic lunch along the trail and enjoy a well-earned rest before continuing the climb. Throughout the afternoon, continue trekking through ancient forest and cloud-covered mountain slopes. Depending on the season, you may encounter the famous rhododendron forests that have made Pu Ta Leng one of Vietnam's most iconic trekking destinations.

17:00 Arrive at the mountain hut at approximately 2500 metres above sea level. This simple wooden shelter serves as the overnight stop for trekkers attempting the summit. Take time to rest, freshen up, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the high mountains as the sun sets over the surrounding peaks.

18:30 Enjoy a hearty dinner prepared by the porter team and spend the night at the mountain hut.

Day 2: Mountain Hut No1 – Pu Ta Leng Summit (3049m) – Mountain Hut No2

05:00 Wake up early and enjoy breakfast prepared by the porter team. Sip a hot cup of ginger tea or coffee while watching the mountains slowly emerge from the morning mist.

06:00 Begin the summit push to Pu Ta Leng Peak (3049 m). Leave your main luggage at the mountain hut and carry only essential items for the ascent.

The trail climbs through moss-covered cloud forest and ancient rhododendron stands, offering some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in Northern Vietnam. During the flowering season, the forest bursts into color, creating an unforgettable trekking experience.

09:30 Reach the summit of Pu Ta Leng, Vietnam's third-highest mountain. Take time to celebrate your achievement, enjoy panoramic views across the Hoang Lien Son Range, and capture photos from the summit. Enjoy a packed lunch before beginning the descent.

12:00 Return to the mountain hut, collect your belongings, and continue trekking toward the second overnight mountain hut. The route traverses one of Pu Ta Leng's most beautiful sections, winding through ancient rhododendron forests, moss-covered trees, and pristine cloud forest landscapes that make this mountain a favorite among experienced trekkers.

16:00 Arrive at the overnight wooden hut nestled within the ancient rhododendron forest. Relax, explore the surrounding area, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the high mountains.

18:30 Enjoy dinner prepared by the porter team and spend the night at the forest hut.

Day 3: Mountain Hut No2 – Ta Leng – Sapa

05:30 Wake up in the heart of the rhododendron forest and enjoy breakfast prepared by the porter team. If weather conditions permit, take in the sunrise and the peaceful atmosphere of the mountains before beginning the final day of the trek.

06:45 Pack up and begin the long descent toward Ta Leng Commune. The trail winds through ancient forest, moss-covered trees, and mountain streams before gradually descending into the valleys below. Today's trek takes approximately 6–7 hours, offering a final opportunity to appreciate the pristine wilderness and unique ecosystems that make Pu Ta Leng one of Vietnam's premier trekking destinations.

12:45 Stop for a light lunch and a short rest before meeting your vehicle for the transfer back to Sapa.

16:00 Arrive back in Sapa. Your guide and driver will drop you off at your hotel, marking the end of your Pu Ta Leng adventure. End of the tour.

1. Trekking Notes

  • Terrain: the terrain is highly diverse—transitioning from shaded forest tracks and steady mountain slope pathways on the first day to steeper, moss-covered inclines and dwarf bamboo slopes nearing the summit. While it includes challenging uphill sections, the trail features well-maintained footpaths and steps, eliminating technical climbing risks.
  • Suitability:This trek is perfect for active travelers, outdoor enthusiasts, and beginners looking for their first high-altitude mountain conquest. No prior mountaineering experience is required; a basic level of physical fitness and stamina is sufficient to enjoy the journey.

2. Overnight on the mountain

  • You will spend 2 nights in mountain shelter. This is a rustic, communal wooden lodge equipped with basic restroom facilities and showers. To ensure a comfortable night's rest in the chilly mountain air, you will be provided with insulated mats or air mattresses, along with cozy blankets or sleeping bags.

3. Food & Water

  • Meals: Dinner will be freshly prepared on-site by our talented porter team. Breakfast features hot options like fried rice, instant noodles, or crepes. Lunch along the trail typically consists of pre-packed, energizing cold meals.
  • Water: Safe, boiled spring water is provided daily by our team at the campsite. Please bring a reusable water bottle or hydration bladder to refill before setting off each day.
  • Hot beverages: Complimentary hot tea and coffee will be available at the shelter during breakfast and dinner.

4. Responsible Travel & Environmental Protection

  • Leave No Trace: We strictly follow and promote the Leave No Trace principles in all our outdoor programs. We encourage our guests and partners to apply these ethics to minimize our impact on the natural environment.
  • Reduce Plastic Waste: To limit single-use plastics, we encourage everyone to bring a reusable bottle (minimum 1L capacity). You can refill it throughout the day from our large water jugs.
