After breakfast, depart by car from Lao Cai Railway Station. The drive is relatively flat at first as it passes through the rural countryside, while the final section of the road becomes rougher during the last 30 km. Arrive in Coc Ly at the busiest time of the market. Coc Ly is known as a small but lively market by the Chay River, and it takes place only on Tuesday morning. Many ethnic people from surrounding villages gather here to buy and sell local products.
Spend time exploring Coc Ly Market, where you may meet members of the Flower H’mong, Black Dao, and Tay communities. The market is a wonderful place to observe traditional costumes, handmade goods, and the lively trading atmosphere of the highlands. Tourism descriptions of the market also emphasize its colorful ethnic character and its location beside the river.
After visiting the market, board a boat and travel downstream along the Chay River. Along the cruise, enjoy beautiful views of the riverbanks, surrounding mountains, and caves. This river journey is one of the signature experiences often paired with a visit to Coc Ly Market.
The trip also includes a visit to Trung Do Village, home to the Tay minority. Here, you can stop at a traditional Tay house for a short cultural visit and gain a glimpse into local daily life. Lunch will be served either on a beach or later in a village, depending on timing and conditions.
Continue further downstream until reaching Bao Nhai Bridge, where your vehicle will be waiting for the transfer back to Lao Cai. End of the tour.
