The trip begins from Sapa with a short drive of around 5 km to Ma Tra Valley, located southeast of town. This valley is known for its impressive terraced rice fields and quiet rural scenery. Sapa tourism materials and trekking listings commonly describe valleys like Ma Tra and nearby ethnic villages as part of Sapa’s scenic network of rice terraces and cultural walks.
From the starting point, we begin an easy downhill walk and cross a stream to the other side of the valley, where Suoi Ho Village sits beautifully on top of a low hill. Here, we spend some time visiting several local homes to gain a better understanding of daily life in the village. Trekking listings for this route also describe Suoi Ho and Ma Tra as village-based walks with H’mong communities, terraced landscapes, and countryside views.
After the village visit, we continue walking along a large stone-paved hillside path through Ma Tra Village. This section offers beautiful views over the valley, terraced rice paddies, and flower farms before transferring back to Sapa.
